The Constitution (Part XVIII, Articles 352–360) provides for three kinds of emergency. This is a guaranteed Polity topic.
NATIONAL EMERGENCY — Article 352
• Grounds: war, external aggression, or armed rebellion.
• Must be approved by both Houses within one month; once approved, it can continue six months at a time.
• It has been declared three times (1962, 1971, 1975).
PRESIDENT'S RULE (STATE EMERGENCY) — Article 356
• Imposed when the constitutional machinery in a state fails.
• The state comes under the Centre/Governor; must be approved by Parliament within two months.
FINANCIAL EMERGENCY — Article 360
• Declared if the financial stability or credit of India is threatened.
• It has NEVER been imposed.
44th AMENDMENT SAFEGUARDS
• After the 1975 misuse, the 44th Amendment (1978) replaced "internal disturbance" with "armed rebellion" and added safeguards (e.g., written Cabinet advice).

राष्ट्रीय आपातकाल — अनुच्छेद 352
• आधार: युद्ध, बाह्य आक्रमण, या सशस्त्र विद्रोह।
• एक माह में दोनों सदनों से अनुमोदन आवश्यक; अनुमोदन के बाद एक बार में छह माह चल सकता है।
• तीन बार घोषित (1962, 1971, 1975)।
राष्ट्रपति शासन (राज्य आपातकाल) — अनुच्छेद 356
• राज्य में संवैधानिक तंत्र विफल होने पर लागू।
• राज्य केंद्र/राज्यपाल के अधीन; दो माह में संसद से अनुमोदन आवश्यक।
वित्तीय आपातकाल — अनुच्छेद 360
• भारत की वित्तीय स्थिरता या साख को खतरा होने पर घोषित।
• यह कभी लागू नहीं हुआ।
44वें संशोधन के सुरक्षा उपाय
• 1975 के दुरुपयोग के बाद, 44वें संशोधन (1978) ने "आंतरिक अशांति" को "सशस्त्र विद्रोह" से बदला एवं सुरक्षा उपाय जोड़े (जैसे लिखित मंत्रिमंडल सलाह)।
परीक्षा दृष्टि: "352 = राष्ट्रीय, 356 = राष्ट्रपति शासन, 360 = वित्तीय (कभी नहीं)"। 44वें संशोधन को आपातकालीन सुरक्षा उपायों से जोड़ें।
