THE CELL
• The cell is the basic structural and functional unit of life; discovered by Robert Hooke (in cork, 1665).
• Prokaryotic cells (e.g., bacteria) have no true nucleus; eukaryotic cells (plants, animals) do.
• Key organelles: nucleus (control centre), mitochondria (the "powerhouse", makes ATP energy), chloroplast (photosynthesis, in plants), ribosomes (protein synthesis), cell wall (in plants).
PHOTOSYNTHESIS
• The process by which green plants make their own food using sunlight, carbon dioxide and water.
• It happens in the chloroplast, using the green pigment chlorophyll.
• Equation: 6CO₂ + 6H₂O —(sunlight)→ C₆H₁₂O₆ (glucose) + 6O₂.
NUTRITION
• Autotrophic — organisms make their own food (green plants).
• Heterotrophic — organisms depend on others for food (animals, fungi).

कोशिका
• कोशिका जीवन की मूल संरचनात्मक एवं कार्यात्मक इकाई है; रॉबर्ट हुक ने खोजी (कॉर्क में, 1665)।
• प्रोकैरियोटिक कोशिकाओं (जैसे बैक्टीरिया) में वास्तविक केंद्रक नहीं; यूकैरियोटिक (पौधे, जंतु) में होता है।

प्रकाश संश्लेषण

• यह क्लोरोप्लास्ट में, हरे वर्णक क्लोरोफिल की सहायता से होता है।

पोषण
• स्वपोषी — जीव अपना भोजन स्वयं बनाते हैं (हरे पौधे)।
• परपोषी — जीव भोजन हेतु दूसरों पर निर्भर (जंतु, कवक)।
