STAGES OF SELECTION - Stage 1: Computer Based Test (CBT) - decides merit - Stage 2: Physical Efficiency Test (PET) - qualifying only - Stage 3: Document Verification (DV) - Stage 4: Medical Examination (ME) CBT STRUCTURE (single stage) Mode: Computer Based Test, objective multiple-choice questions Duration: 90 minutes (120 minutes for candidates eligible for a scribe) Total: 100 questions, 100 marks (1 mark each) - General Science - 25 questions, 25 marks - Mathematics - 25 questions, 25 marks - General Intelligence and Reasoning - 30 questions, 30 marks - General Awareness and Current Affairs - 20 questions, 20 marks The section-wise split is indicative; the actual paper may vary slightly. MARKING AND QUALIFYING - Negative marking: 1/3 mark deducted for every wrong answer - Minimum qualifying percentage: UR 40%, EWS 40%, OBC (NCL) 30%, SC 30%, ST 30% (relaxable by 2 marks for PwBD if reserved vacancies fall short) - Normalization of marks is applied when the CBT runs in multiple shifts - Railways reserves the right to hold a second-stage CBT; if held, the first CBT becomes qualifying for shortlisting LANGUAGES CBT is available in 15 languages: English, Hindi and 13 regional languages (Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Konkani, Malayalam, Manipuri, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, Urdu). Questions appear in the opted language and in English. PET (QUALIFYING ONLY) Shortlisting: 3 times the vacancies, by CBT merit. Male: lift and carry 35 kg for 100 metres in 2 minutes in one chance without putting the weight down, then run 1000 metres in 4 minutes 15 seconds. Female and Transgender: lift and carry 20 kg for 100 metres in 2 minutes, then run 1000 metres in 5 minutes 40 seconds. Weight-carrying comes first; failing it means elimination. Exempted: PwBD, Ex-Servicemen and Course Completed Act Apprentices. DV AND MEDICAL DV call is at 1:1 ratio of vacancies based on CBT merit plus PET qualification. Tie-break: older candidate ranks higher, then alphabetical order of first name. Final appointment needs the medical fitness standard of the chosen post (A2/A3/B1/C1).
