Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the Land Port Management System, named VINIMAY, in New Delhi on 9 June 2026. The platform digitises operations at land ports run by the Land Ports Authority of India, replacing paper-based processes for cargo clearance and passenger movement along land borders with Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan and Myanmar. By tracking trucks, consignments and travellers on a single dashboard, VINIMAY aims to cut delays in overland trade while tightening border security against unauthorised crossings.

India's Zojila Tunnel project achieved its final breakthrough on 9 June 2026 at Meenamarg in Ladakh's Kargil district, with Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari witnessing the blast that connected the full bore. The 13.153-km horseshoe-shaped tunnel between Baltal (near Sonmarg) and Meenamarg is India's longest and highest road tunnel and Asia's longest bi-directional single-tube tunnel, built at about 11,578 feet in the seismically active Himalayas. It will give all-weather connectivity on the Srinagar–Kargil–Leh axis, which currently stays cut off for nearly seven months each winter, and will shrink the Zojila Pass crossing from around 3.5 hours to roughly 15-20 minutes. Public opening is targeted around February 2028.

भारत की ज़ोजिला सुरंग परियोजना ने 9 जून 2026 को लद्दाख के करगिल जिले के मीनामर्ग में अंतिम ब्रेकथ्रू हासिल कर लिया। केंद्रीय सड़क परिवहन मंत्री नितिन गडकरी की मौजूदगी में हुए इस विस्फोट से सुरंग आर-पार जुड़ गई। बालटाल (सोनमर्ग के पास) से मीनामर्ग तक बनी 13.153 किलोमीटर लंबी यह घोड़े की नाल के आकार की सुरंग भारत की सबसे लंबी और सबसे ऊंची सड़क सुरंग है, साथ ही एशिया की सबसे लंबी द्वि-दिशीय सिंगल-ट्यूब सुरंग भी — जो करीब 11,578 फीट की ऊंचाई पर बनी है। इससे श्रीनगर–करगिल–लेह मार्ग को हर मौसम में कनेक्टिविटी मिलेगी, जो अभी सर्दियों में लगभग सात महीने बंद रहता है। ज़ोजिला दर्रा पार करने का समय करीब 3.5 घंटे से घटकर 15-20 मिनट रह जाएगा। इसे फरवरी 2028 के आसपास जनता के लिए खोलने का लक्ष्य है।

NASA names four-member Artemis III crew for Moon-programme test flight
नासा ने आर्टेमिस-III मिशन के चार अंतरिक्ष यात्रियों के नामों की घोषणा की
On 9 June 2026, NASA announced the four astronauts for its Artemis III mission, a key step in the programme to return humans to the Moon. The crew comprises commander Randy Bresnik, mission specialists Frank Rubio and Andre Douglas (all NASA), and pilot Luca Parmitano of the European Space Agency (ESA), making it an international crew. Frank Rubio holds the American single-flight duration record of 371 days aboard the International Space Station. Artemis III, expected to launch in 2027, will operate in Earth orbit to test docking with commercially built lunar landers from SpaceX and Blue Origin, paving the way for the Artemis IV crewed Moon landing targeted for 2028.

Health Ministry marks 10 years of PMSMA; Nadda releases Rs 75 coin and Rs 5 stamp

Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda launched nationwide celebrations on 9 June 2026 to mark a decade of the Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan (PMSMA), releasing a commemorative Rs 75 coin and a Rs 5 postal stamp in New Delhi. PMSMA, started on 9 June 2016, guarantees free, assured antenatal check-ups to pregnant women on the 9th of every month at government facilities, focusing on second and third trimesters to detect high-risk pregnancies early. The campaign theme is "10 Years of PMSMA – A Decade of Care".
