IIG Director Recruitment 2026 (Indian Institute of Geomagnetism)

IIG, Navi Mumbai is recruiting for one Director post in Pay Matrix Level 15 (7th CPC), with Basic Pay of Rs 1,82,200 – Rs 2,24,100 per month plus applicable Central Government allowances.

आईआईजी, नवी मुंबई एक निदेशक पद के लिए भर्ती कर रहा है, जो वेतन मैट्रिक्स लेवल 15 (7वां CPC) में है, मूल वेतन रु 1,82,200 – रु 2,24,100 प्रति माह तथा लागू केंद्रीय भत्ते।

The online application portal opened on 10 June 2026 and the last date to submit the online application is 26 July 2026. The hard copy must reach the Registrar by 31 July 2026 (by 10 August 2026 for North-East and other notified remote areas).

The essential qualification is a Doctorate (Ph.D.) in Earth Sciences / Atmospheric Sciences / related Sciences. Post-doctoral research, high-standard published work and professional eminence (academy fellowships, national/international science awards) are desirable.

अनिवार्य योग्यता पृथ्वी विज्ञान / वायुमंडलीय विज्ञान / संबंधित विज्ञान में डॉक्टरेट (पीएच.डी.) है। पोस्ट-डॉक्टोरल शोध, उच्च-स्तरीय प्रकाशित कार्य एवं पेशेवर प्रतिष्ठा (अकादमी फेलोशिप, राष्ट्रीय/अंतरराष्ट्रीय विज्ञान पुरस्कार) वांछनीय हैं।

The candidate's age should not exceed 56 years as on 01 July 2026. The age of superannuation for the post is 60 years.

उम्मीदवार की आयु 01 जुलाई 2026 को 56 वर्ष से अधिक नहीं होनी चाहिए। पद हेतु सेवानिवृत्ति आयु 60 वर्ष है।

At least 20 years of R&D experience is required (in industrial/academic institutions, S&T organizations, or as faculty/scientist of recognized universities/research institutes), of which a minimum of 4 years must be in a managerial/administrative capacity, with R&D experience in Solid Earth Geophysics / Geomagnetism / Upper Atmospheric Physics / Sun-Earth relations.

कम से कम 20 वर्ष का आर एंड डी अनुभव आवश्यक है, जिसमें न्यूनतम 4 वर्ष प्रबंधकीय/प्रशासनिक स्तर पर होने चाहिए, तथा ठोस पृथ्वी भूभौतिकी / भूचुंबकत्व / उपरी वायुमंडलीय भौतिकी / सूर्य-पृथ्वी संबंध में आर एंड डी अनुभव होना चाहिए।

The Director can be appointed by Direct Recruitment (tenure basis), by Deputation (including short-term contract), or by Re-employment. Candidates must specify their preferred mode while applying; those appointed on Direct Recruitment must furnish consent for technical resignation from their parent post.

The tenure is 3 to 5 years, or until the candidate attains the age of superannuation (60 years at present), whichever is earlier. Direct recruits serve a probation of one year.

There is no written exam. Applications and nominations are screened, and eligible candidates are evaluated by a high-level Search-cum-Selection Committee. The Director is appointed after the Committee's recommendation and approval of the Competent Authority.

Faculty/scientists in Central/State Government, UTs, universities, recognized research institutes or autonomous bodies who hold an analogous post on a regular basis, or have 5 years' regular service in Pay Level 14 (Rs 1,44,200 – Rs 2,18,200), and possess the prescribed qualification and experience, may apply on deputation through proper channel with NOC, cadre clearance and vigilance/integrity certificate.
