CISF/CRPF/BSF Constable Syllabus 2026

SCOPE

SSC runs the all-India Constable (General Duty) intake for BSF, CISF, CRPF, SSB, ITBP and Assam Rifles as SSC GD Constable, which has its own page. This hub covers the constable posts the forces recruit themselves: CRPF Constable (Technical & Tradesmen and Pioneer), CISF Constable/Fire and Constable/Tradesman, and BSF Constable (Tradesman).

WHICH CYCLE IS LIVE

The CRPF Constable (Technical & Tradesmen and Pioneer) 2026 recruitment is the current one. Applications ran 20 April to 19 May 2026 and the CBT date is still awaited. The recent CISF Constable/Fire and Constable/Tradesman drives and the BSF Constable (Tradesman) drive are all past their application stage, and the BSF recruitment portal lists no open vacancy at present.

STAGES

In CRPF the order is PET (race), PST (height, chest, weight), Computer Based Test, Trade/Skill Test, Document Verification and Detailed / Review Medical Examination. Only candidates who clear PET and PST are called to the CBT. PET, PST and the trade test are qualifying only; the written paper alone builds the merit list.

CRPF CONSTABLE (TECHNICAL & TRADESMEN AND PIONEER) - 2026 NOTICE

Computer Based Test, objective multiple choice, matriculation level. One paper - 100 questions, 100 marks, 2 hours.

General Intelligence and Reasoning - 25 questions, 25 marks

General Knowledge and General Awareness - 25 questions, 25 marks

Elementary Mathematics - 25 questions, 25 marks

English/Hindi - 25 questions, 25 marks

Negative marking - 0.25 mark for every wrong answer.

Language - English and Hindi only.

CBT cut-off to be shortlisted for the trade test - 30 per cent for UR, 25 per cent for EWS and OBC, 20 per cent for all other categories. For the Pioneer Wing it is 35 per cent for UR and 33 per cent for SC, ST, OBC and EWS.

CBT marks are normalised, and the normalised score fixes the final merit list and cut-off.

Trade Test - 50 marks, practical and qualifying, 20 needed to pass.

CISF AND BSF WRITTEN TESTS

Each force sets its own matriculation-level objective paper of 100 questions and 100 marks, taken in English and Hindi, and follows it with a trade or skill test, document verification and a medical examination. The section split, the time allowed, the qualifying percentage and whether wrong answers are penalised are fixed afresh in every advertisement, and published summaries disagree on them. Take those numbers from the notice you are applying under, not from a coaching page.

THE WRITTEN PAPER IS PITCHED AT MATRICULATION LEVEL

All four force-run constable papers test the same four blocks. The topic list below follows the CRPF Constable (Technical & Tradesmen and Pioneer) 2026 notice, which publishes its syllabus in full; CISF and BSF cover the same ground.

HOW CISF AND BSF LABEL THE SAME GROUND

Both forces test the same four blocks; some notices rename the reasoning head Analytical Aptitude. The exact names and the per-section split are set in each advertisement, so confirm them there.

TRADE TEST / SKILL TEST

Practical and qualifying. In CRPF it carries 50 marks and 20 are needed to pass. A candidate is asked to perform a task from the trade applied for.

- Driver - handling, driving, parking and maintenance of light and heavy vehicles

- Motor Mechanic Vehicle - automobile fitter and motor mechanic work, handling of tools

- Tailor - taking measurements, cutting and stitching of uniform and warm clothing

- Cobbler - polishing, cutting leather, repairing and stitching shoes, making new shoes

- Carpenter - cutting wood, fitting, polishing, doors and windows, boxes, racks, timber truss

- Painter - colours, paints and shades, sign boards, spray painting, working out paint quantity

- Gardener (Mali) - plantation, care of plants, seeds and their seasons, fertilisers and manures

- Bugler, Brass Band, Pipe Band - playing, handling and maintaining the instrument

PHYSICAL PREPARATION

PET and PST carry no marks but they eliminate, and in CRPF they come before the written paper. Train for the exact race distance fixed for your trade.

- CRPF men - 5 km in 24 minutes for the driving, craft and band trades; 1.6 km in 10 minutes for Cook, Water Carrier, Barber and Safai Karamchari; 1.6 km in 9 minutes for the Pioneer trades of Mason and Electrician.

- CRPF women - 1.6 km in 8 minutes 30 seconds in the first group, 12 minutes in the second.

- CRPF standards - height 170 cm men, 157 cm women; chest 80 cm with 5 cm expansion for men, not measured for women; weight proportionate to height and age.

- CISF and BSF fix their own distances, heights and chest standards trade by trade; read them off the current advertisement.

Check the relaxations notified for Scheduled Tribes, Gorkhas, and candidates from the hill and north-eastern regions before ruling yourself out on height or chest.
