World Food Safety Day was observed globally on 7 June 2026 under the theme "From burden to solutions – safe food everywhere", chosen jointly by the WHO and FAO. The 2026 theme stresses using data on foodborne illness — which affects an estimated 600 million people a year worldwide — to design targeted, cost-effective fixes rather than merely counting the burden. The day was instituted by UN General Assembly resolution A/RES/73/250 adopted on 20 December 2018, and was first observed on 7 June 2019.
